2009 $5 Silver Proof Coin Qld

150th Anniversary of State Government
Low Stock!
Queensland has come a long way since being declared a colony by Queen Victoria in 1859, from early financial budgetary constraints to one of Australia's strongest economies and most popular holiday destinations.
One hundred and fifty years ago Queensland was part of New South Wales, presided over by Queen Victoria.
In the 1850's the people of Queensland began a push for a separate state and sent their petitions to England and the monarch's attention.
The then Governor George Bowen and Lady Bowen arrived in Brisbane on 10 December 1859 to deliver the news from the Letters Patent signed on 6 June by Queen Victoria.
The jubilant crowd welcomed this news with 14-gun salute and fireworks in the harbour. Queen Victoria favoured the name Queensland over the suggested title of Cooksland in honour of Captain James Cook.
