Welcome to the May Mint Issue. Time is passing quickly this year and the Mint has been busy with new coin releases and other promotional activities.
As many of you are aware 2010 marks the centenary of Australian coinage. The Mint also proudly celebrates 45 years of service, producing circulating and collectible coins which are great mementoes of Australia's rich and proud heritage and culture.
As part of our birthday celebrations, the Ray Hadley Morning Show was broadcast live from the Mint on Friday 26 February 2010. Canberra Raiders players Justin Carney, Joe Picker and Chief Executive Officer Don Furner joined in the celebrations along with one of Canberra’s favourite son's Robert de Castella. There was a great 'party' atmosphere at the Mint and a number of collectors and Ray Hadley fans were in attendance.
February saw the Mint complete its final phase of its modernisation program with a new IT business system. This new system will improve efficiencies, governance and accountability of our business processes and ultimately provide a better customer service to you the collector.
Also in February the Mint attended the Australian Numismatic Dealer’s Association (ANDA) show in Perth.

Our eagerly anticipated trip out west was met by friendly collectors and celebrated with the exclusive release of the ‘P’ privy mark on the 2010 $1 100 Years of Australian Coinage Silver Proof coin.
In April we released the second coin in our popular Australia Remembers series, which honours the lost soldiers of Fromelles, developed in partnership with the Australian Fromelles Project Group, this coin acknowledges the soldiers who will finally be laid to rest with full military honours on 19 July 2010 at the Fromelles Military cemetery (Pheasant Wood), France.
Finally our Made to Order coin, formally known as the Subscription Coin, continues this time with a centenary of Australian coinage theme. This coin is truly unique, made to order only by demand from our customers. The final mintage on this coin for 2009 was 5928.
Happy collecting
